Wellness Buyer / Collective Manager – Alberta Co-op Grocery – Portland, OR

Running a Wellness Department is a multi-faceted and nuanced adventure, especially here at ACG. Experience is what we are looking for along with the love of the work, products, and assisting customers in connecting with the right products. The duties of the Wellness Buyer include all aspects of department management:

-Product selection, ordering, receiving, invoicing, pricing, merchandising/stocking, keeping prices and shelf tags current.

-Working directly with brokers, distributors, and local vendors.

-Inventory management and general department maintenance including the physical presentation.

-Keeping up with NCG sales commitments, sales tags, sales change over dates.

-Training and working with Working Owners in the department.

-Working with the Buyer’s Team; planning, problem solving, support, financial reporting.

-Attend relevant trainings and conferences when possible.

-Provide super awesome customer service.

This position is 5 days a week, Sunday through Thursday, 32-35 hours

We are a collectively managed organization here at the Alberta Co-op Grocery. This means that every full-time employee will contribute in helping to run this business. Previous managerial experience is not necessary but you will be expected to learn and participate in the operations of our store. Being a collective manager means being held to higher expectations than you would find at a normal customer service job. Serving on committees, writing and critically thinking about store policy proposals, attending monthly staff and department meetings, and respectfully evaluating your fellow co-managers are just some of the required responsibilities of a collective manager.

It will be important to have a passion for cooperative business and collective management. We are looking for applicants that are self-motivated; detail oriented, wants to have a voice in the operation of this business, and is willing to take on tasks and jobs that aren’t typically part of the everyday grocery experience.
