Title: Public Outreach Director
Job Description
Wisconsin Wave, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization working to build the democracy movement in Wisconsin, is hiring a full-time Public Outreach Director. Responsibilities include grassroots campaign development and communications; door-to-door canvassing to recruit members and raise funds; managing general canvass operations (including hiring and training canvass staff); and outreaching to potential business and community partners.
Wisconsin Wave was founded to reverse the corporate takeover of Wisconsin while building a popular movement for democracy. Our current priority is WMC-Free Wisconsin, a divestment campaign targeting the powerful corporate lobbyist group Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC). Wisconsin Wave is a project of the Liberty Tree Foundation, a Madison-based strategy center dedicated to building the U.S. democracy movement. More information at www.WisconsinWave.org.
Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be passionate about working for progressive social change as well as responsible, detail-oriented, personable, and dedicated. Other required qualifications include:
Strong interest in taking on a leadership role in a growing campaign to build the grassroots democracy movement in Wisconsin
Previous experience working on a grassroots organizing campaign
Ability to confidently fundraise and recruit supporters
Ability to manage a team of up to 15 individuals and to lead by example
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Exceptional time management skills
Exceptionally detail oriented
Working knowledge of current U.S. political and social affairs
Experience and comfort working with diverse communities
Strong proficiency in office software including Excel, Word, and Google Drive
Preferred Qualifications
Professional experience working for a door to door outreach or fundraising canvass is preferred but not required. Other preferred qualifications include:
Experience managing a team
Previous professional or volunteer door canvassing experience for a political or social cause
Experience making outreach or fundraising phone calls
Knowledge of Wisconsin political and social affairs
Knowledge of Wisconsin grassroots organizations
Employment Details
This is a full-time salaried position based in Madison, WI. Compensation is commensurate with experience and is based on personal and office-wide canvass performance.
