Youth Development Coordinator – Juma Ventures – San Diego, CA

Organizational Profile

In 1993, Juma Ventures (www.Juma.org) became the first nonprofit organization to own and operate a commercial franchise—a single Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop that provided a handful of jobs to homeless youth in San Francisco. Since then, Juma has grown from a job-training and placement program serving 25 youth to a nationally-recognized youth development organization. Juma has employed more than 4,000 young people who have generated more than $25m in business revenue and saved more than $4 million for higher education. Juma has received numerous awards for its work including the National Youth Employment Coalition’s PEPNet Award and a Community Achievement Award as the national organization of the year from the Social Enterprise Alliance. Juma operates in seven cities across the country: San Francisco, Oakland, Santa Clara, San Diego, Seattle, New Orleans and New York.

Juma Ventures’ San Diego operations began in 2007. Juma Ventures recruits high school sophomores from San Diego’s City Heights and Diamond District neighborhoods. Juma engages youth in a comprehensive program including three core components: (1) employment in social enterprise businesses; (2) financial literacy and asset building; and (3) academic and career supports. Our employees enjoy a casual yet results-oriented environment; we value & seek team members who are passionate, innovative, team-oriented, professional, fun to work with, responsible, solution-oriented, diligent, and build team diversity.
