Addiction Medicine Doctor – Odyssey House Inc – Bronx, NY

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Addiction Medicine Doctor is responsible for providing Medication Assisted Treatment. The Addiction Medicine Doctor functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for ensuring a high level of quality patient care in accordance with all applicable regulations and generally accepted standards of care.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible determining the medical necessity for addiction medication.
Responsible for the ongoing care and treatment of individuals with Substance Use Disorder including prescribing and face-to-face administration and/or induction of medication.
Responsible for the observation of the patient prior to administration and after as appropriate to the medication and the patient’s condition.
Responsible for the face-to-face services with patients for the purpose of the comprehensive medication review or the induction of a new medication requiring observation.
Ensures appropriate addiction medication treatment services are available to all patients.
Determines patient suitability for self-administration without oversight and assures the accurate recording of capacity testing for self-administration without oversight in the clinical record.
Ensures medically-related policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in a timely manner.
Keeps abreast of new and emerging medical treatments and implements changes as appropriate.
Participates in the development and implementation of CQI activities.
Other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Licensed and currently registered as a Physician in the State of New York.
Should be currently certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), or a subspecialty board certification in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Medical Specialties, or an addiction certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Must have or obtain a federal DATA waiver (buprenorphine-certified) within six months of hire.
Current DEA # and Infection Control Certification.
Have at least one year of education, training and/or experience in substance use disorder services.
In good standing with New York State Department of Education Professional Licensing Boards and without any outstanding malpractice judgments.
Knowledge of Article 32 health regulations and licensure.
Strong interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.
Should be currently certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM), or a subspecialty board certification in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Medical Specialties, or an addiction certification from the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
