Title: Health Director
Supervisor(s): Director of After School & Summer Camp
General Responsibilities: To work with the Program Director and Assistant Camp Director to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children in the camp; to report all situations that may endanger the health and safety of campers/staff. Health Director is certified in RTE First AID and CPR for Professional Rescuer and is responsible for being aware of the medical needs of campers, implementing preventative health and safety measures and tending to any ill child or injuries.
Specific Duties: Lead program trips as needed. Responsible for the inspection of bathrooms and eating facilities on a daily basis to prevent the spread of possible diseases; inspects and records temperature of meals distributed by the camp; inspects the kitchen to ensure cleanliness and makes sure refrigerators are at proper temperatures; responsible for the identification and reporting of disease outbreaks; responds to any ill/injured child and responsible for keeping detailed records of illnesses/injuries. Ensures Department of Health and School Food protocols are followed in regards to meals and health/safety of campers and interacts with inspectors as needed.
Qualifications: Must be certified in CPR for Professional Rescuers and RTE First Aid (training can be provided after hired). (S)he must be at least 21 years of age and had at least two years’ experience working in a summer camp or school-aged program with a variety of age groups. Must be patient, creative, flexible and exhibit strong teamwork, as well as leadership skills.
Time Commitment: 2 full days of staff training, 8 weeks of camp (4-8 hours/day) and up to 20 hours of planning and prep time.
