Childcare Coordinator – Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)

Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church Children’s Ministries is looking for a ministry-minded individual with strong leadership and administration abilities to join our team! We are hiring a part-time (20 hours/week) Childcare Coordinator to develop, implement and administer weekend, midweek and special event childcare programs for children from nursery through fourth grade.

JOB TITLE: Childcare Coordinator

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Non-Exempt

HOURS: 20 hours/week including weekend and occasional weeknight availability

POSITION OVERVIEW: The purpose of this job is to develop, implement and administer weekend, midweek and special event childcare programs for children from nursery through fourth grade. The person occupying this position must be ministry-minded with strong leadership and administration abilities, and a team player who can listen skillfully, inspire trust and resolve conflict.

REPORTS TO: Director of Children’s Ministries

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Number of volunteers and paid staff receiving direction: up to 25.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent; College degree with emphasis in Child Development or experience teaching is desirable; Supervisory experience a must.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Mature Christian with a servant’s heart
Spiritual gifts of leadership, administration and shepherding
Knowledge of Child Development and Spiritual Formation
Knowledge of health, safety and welfare standards for children
Certified in infant and child CPR
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others encountered in the course of work including Staff, Volunteer Coordinators, Ministry Leaders, the congregation and parents/families
Ability to work independently and make effective judgments in the absence of the supervisor, be self-motivated, well organized, assess priorities, and be flexible
Ability to handle unpredictable situations that require informed and immediate response

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Arrange childcare as requested for programs and events throughout the year
Schedule volunteer and paid caregivers and assign children for childcare in partnership with Staff and/or Volunteer Coordinators
Plan, adapt and implement developmentally appropriate, Christian curriculum and activities for childcare events; work with Staff and Volunteer Coordinators to provide the same for on-going childcare programs
Recruit, interview and hire paid caregivers
Obtain and submit all paperwork related to hiring and/or retention of paid and volunteer caregivers
Train, equip, support and supervise paid and volunteer caregivers
Conduct annual trainings, evaluations and handle disciplinary issues as needed throughout the year
Prepare time cards and excel spreadsheet for paid caregivers twice monthly to be submitted to finance office
Track and maintain annual budget as it pertains to childcare
Work closely with Director of Children’s Ministries to address concerns that involve children, their families and volunteer or paid caregivers
Maintain well-supplied childcare facilities current with health, safety and welfare policies
Oversee classroom and playground maintenance and improvements
Attend staff and department meetings as requested
Support summer Day Camp and other major programs and events in cooperation with the Director of Children’s Ministries
