Position Title: Director of Clinical Activities
Responsible to: Executive Director Nursing Heart, Inc. Based in Guatemala
Preferred start date: 1 August 2017
NURSING HEART, Inc. (NHI) is a Guatemala-based non-profit organization whose mission it is to respond to the health needs of indigenous and underserved communities in partnership with others offering these services in Guatemala and doing this by involving advanced practice nurses, nursing students and other providers from the USA allowing them the opportunity to learn about offering care in a global context. The organization seeks to build relationships that foster public health and hope in Guatemala. NHI is seeking a full-time Director of Clinical Activities based in Antigua, Guatemala. Position Description: The full-time Clinical Director serves as a key bridge between the communities served in Guatemala, our USA partners and the institutions and programs that help us in our mission. The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and English and have experience working in and/or living in Guatemala; strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills; solid experience in clinical work and ability to work with a team-based, professionally diverse organization, preferably a non-profit. The position is presently located in Antigua, Guatemala. As the primary clinical leader and liaison between the organization and U.S.-based professional universities, the ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, kind, experienced nurse with a passion for helping people to work together in a positive, supportive manner along with other staff members and Guatemalan organizations and stakeholders.
The Clinical Director role includes:
§ Development, implementation and evaluation of clinical programs to meet the public health needs of indigenous and other at-risk communities in Guatemala
§ Develop relationships and collaborate with clinical faculty from partner institutions to provide clinical educational experiences for healthcare students
§ Maintain ongoing clinical presence in identified communities requiring long-term health maintenance activities
§ Using data and best practices, work closely with community leadership to develop public health initiatives that meet the needs of local communities
§ Support the work of NHI as part of the leadership team
NURSING HEART INC Clinical Director Requirements
• Bachelorʼs degree in nursing or related field is required.
• Five (5) years clinical experience.
• Experience in quality improvement processes. Experience in community/public/global health preferred.
• Nursing management experience preferred.
• Valid BLS
• Willingness to live and work in Guatemala.
• Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communications skills in English and Spanish.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Effective leadership, communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
• Spanish speaking proficiency or willingness to engage in Spanish language education. Awareness of development models used for indigenous communities.
• Ability to consult on a broad spectrum of issues including but not limited to: nursing practice performance standards, program development, professional practice models, system change strategies, interdisciplinary collaboration and professional development.
• Proficiency with Google Chrome, Google Docs, and Apple operating systems.
• Ability to produce, interpret and monitor data for decision-making.
• Experience with data collection and monitoring techniques.
• Comprehensive clinical knowledge and nursing experience working with the applicable patient population.
• Respectful, appropriate, supportive stance toward the patient population.
