Volunteers in Medicine of Southern Nevada (VMSN) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Specialist to join its dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

VMSN is a nonprofit organization that provides free adult and pediatric medical care to the economically disadvantaged and uninsured residents of Southern Nevada. To learn more about VMSN, visit vmsn.org.

The EMR Specialist is vital member of the clinical team who helps to assure quality care is provided to patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of the VMSN clinic.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Ensure the quality of the patient’s medical record by verifying the accuracy and proper entry into the electronic health record system.
Oversee and perform document imaging/scanning, document indexing and quality assurance of the electronic record while maintaining patient privacy and security.
Provide a high level of customer service in coordinating patient information through all clinic departments according to the organization’s policies and procedures.
Implement new features of EMR software, including online patient portal, as needed.
Oversee training of all clinical staff and volunteers on EMR system.
Maintain EMR training manuals for medical scribes, clerks, nurses and practitioners.
Oversee medical record requests – incoming requests and outgoing records.
Furnish EMR reports as needed by administration, clinical, or philanthropy departments.
Work with IT consultant on all computer hardware/software issues, including updates, installations and backups

Required Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications related to the electronic medical record preferred
Ability to work quickly and accurately with numbers, arrange numbers in numerical sequence, speak, write and understand English language
Working knowledge of computers (Windows, Microsoft Office Word, Excel).
Prefer bilingual applicants, specifically Spanish-speaking

Required Experience:

Graduate of a Health information technology (RHIT) program (preferred), Health Sciences program or a medical assistant (C-MA) program
Hands-on experience in a clinical setting utilizing EMR system
Prefer experience with Soapware and MedServices systems
