Fall 2015 Health Policy / Communications Intern – Health Data Consortium – Washington, DC

ABOUT:

The Health Data Consortium (HDC) is a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit focused on promoting the accessibility, availability and responsible use of health data and encouraging collaboration among health data users and stakeholders to ignite innovation, drive down rising health care costs and improve patient outcomes.

PURPOSE:

HDC is seeking interns for the Fall 2015 semester. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in furthering their understanding of the rapidly advancing field of health data and learning about the effects of big data and technology on the American health care system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should be undergraduate or graduate-level students currently enrolled in a public policy, communications, or health-related degree program and should have a strong understanding of health policy and/or public health as well as a desire to learn more about the effects of data and technology in healthcare.

Successful applicants must have strong verbal, written, research and analysis skills, ability to work independently, ability to completely tasks in a timely manner, and attention to detail. Applicants must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Applicants should anticipate spending 8-16 hours a week at the office during the internship, but are also encouraged to work and research independently when not in the office to finish assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Applicants are expected to produce at least one independently researched/written blog a month during the duration of their internship related to the assigned topic (300-500 words). Interns may also be expected to produce written summaries of policy hearings, meetings or events around the topic of health data, as well as assist in additional policy and/or programmatic research as necessary.

Applicants are also expected to produce one independently researched paper (1500-2500 words) by the end of their internship. The topic of the paper will be determined by the candidate in collaboration with HDC’s Policy and Programs staff.
