Manager, Medical Practice Affairs – California Academy of Family Physicians – San Francisco, CA

Responsibilities:

Responsible for activities related to medical practice affairs for the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP). The manager of medical affairs is CAFP’s main resource for non-clinical, practice-related issues members face including: practice management, coding and payment issues, legal issues, scope of practice, quality improvement, health information technology and office re-design methodologies. Responsible for CAFP programs and services on socioeconomic topics.

Practice Management: Provides assistance to individual members with specific medical economic issues/problems and legal questions. Oversees all subsections of practice management including:

Practice Finance Center
Coding and Payment: Oversees all coding activities including annual monograph and teleconference, CME accreditation and updating content of monograph
Employment Contract Review Service
Scope of Practice and Hospital Privileges

Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH): Provides support to VP, Health Policy to implement CAFP’s strategic plan efforts to disseminate information on the PCMH model and engage practices in improvement. Facilitates introduction of the PCMH concept to Academy members and works with various committees and department heads. The MPA Manager works with Communications Department to maintain and manage the PCMH University, CAFP’s website dedicated to medical home transformation.

Medical Practice Affairs Committee: Works with VP, Health Policy and Chair to manage the Medical Practice Affairs Committee. The Committee meets quarterly to advocate for family physicians on socioeconomic-related issues, privileging, and technology and create programming for members.

Quality Improvement: Provides project management and coordination of Quality Improvement/PCMH collaboratives including input into module development, faculty coordination, and participant data reporting process.

Communication Duties: Oversees development and production of Academy publications for medical practice affairs including Academy in Action, a quarterly column in California Family Physician, as appropriate, www.familydocs.org, and managing content development and production of popular monthly newsletter, Practice Management News.

Strategic Planning: Works with VP, Health Policy to monitor and analyze trends in payment, scope of practice, practice consolidation/affiliation, etc. and develop and implement action plans based on those challenges and trends.

Administrative Duties: Provides support to VP, Health Policy to prepare department budgets, objectives and action plans. General administrative duties include event planning, file management, correspondence, mailings, etc.
