General Summary
Provide efficient operation of the Meals-on-Wheels program: Training and scheduling of volunteers, oversight of meal heating and packing, pick-up and delivery, and maintenance of accurate records for MOW clients and volunteers. Provide general office support and kitchen assistance as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
Manage the proper preparation and on-time delivery of meals to seniors in the Meals on Wheels program following all food safety standards and Meals on Wheels People procedures.
Schedule MOW volunteer drivers for each route daily.
Maintain MOW route books with accurate delivery information on MOW participants; make adjustments as needed. Provide drivers with specific instructions and maps.
Work with volunteer staff to coordinate packing and pick-up of MOW for delivery.
Follow up on MOW participant if driver is unable to deliver the meal.
Alert Client Service Coordinator and Center Manager as necessary regarding needs of recipients.
Complete all necessary reports and records for center Meals on Wheels program:
Daily tally of meals to be prepared
Weekly estimate of MOW needed for following week
Intake of new recipients information
Daily MOW Log and volunteer sign-in sheet
Daily Phone Log
Daily record of meals served
Weekly frozen meals schedule
Assist in recruitment, screening, registration, training and recognition of center volunteers and MOW drivers.
Cooperate with the Center Steering Committee and otherwise be aware of and actively support the objectives and goal of that committee and of the Meals on Wheels People, Inc. Board of Directors.
May be required to perform Meals on Wheels delivery duties for routes lacking volunteer coverage
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Knowledge
High School diploma or equivalent
Valid Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks
Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire
Skills, Abilities & Experience
Vehicle and valid driver’s license and insurance required to perform job duties
Proven experience to effectively manage, engage and retain volunteers
Excellent organizational, record keeping, time management and multi-tasking skills including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes
Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations including minority, low income and persons with disabilities
Strong ability to problem solve and implement solutions
Ability to repetitively move 25lbs; routinely moves cooler and cooler bags from one location to another and from various heights in preparation of and for the completion of meal delivery; ability to ascend stairs and move around on city sidewalks
Proficient in computer applications and MS Office including, Outlook, Word and Excel
Ability to quickly learn new computer programs; experience with client data management systems a plus
Must pass pre-employment drug & alcohol test and criminal background check
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Fast paced, with significant people interaction. May be required to move up to 50lbs, 25lbs repetitively and ability to frequently position self to stoop, bend and crouch. Sitting for short periods of time and typing. Dexterity of hands and fingers required for operation of phone, keyboard and mouse. Must pass drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
