Range: $17.01 – $24.67

Summary:

The Mental Health Specialist will provide client intake and screening, client assessment, matching volunteers to clients, and providing supervision, training and support to peer counselor volunteers. The Mental Health Specialist will conduct support groups at designated locations on an ongoing basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for recruiting, screening, and the supervision of peer counseling volunteers and matching the volunteers to the clients.
Conduct weekly supervision with new volunteers (involved with the program less than six months) to review the volunteer’s activities with their client(s) and provide guidance for future activities. Experienced volunteers will be supervised bi-weekly.
Conduct bi-weekly Senior Peer Support groups at designated locations throughout Snohomish County.
Conduct home visits to screen and assess clients to rule out personality issues, substance abuse issues, or cognitive impairment that would limit the effectiveness of peer –to-peer counseling services.
Provide training and support to volunteer peer counselors as needed.
Maintain a working knowledge of community resources available to older adults in Snohomish County.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and prepare reports according to program requirements.

Education and Experience Required:

M.A. in Counseling, Social and Human services, Gerontology, Mental Health or related field preferred
Two (2) years’ experience in aging social services and/or mental health

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Computer literacy in Word and database and spreadsheet management
Valid WA State Driver’s License and own vehicle
Evidence of experience or training in presentation skills preferred
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
