The William Davidson Institute (WDI) is a non-profit research and educational institute established at the University of Michigan in 1992. Policymakers and business leaders are making significant investments in healthcare supply chain because they recognize that a high-performing supply chain is a key strategic component to a large scale impact in saving lives and improving patients’ quality of life. This role will contribute to WDI’s efforts to provide a strategic outlook on the global health ecosystem in order to better inform decision-making and investments in both the public and private sectors abroad.
This full-time, benefit-eligible position will be based in our Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA) office; domestic and international business travel may account for a significant percentage of time. This position will contribute to WDI’s work in improving healthcare supply chains in emerging markets by leading major projects in a fast-growing portfolio of policy advisory services, practice-focused research, and pilot implementations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 – Analysis and Solution Delivery
Conduct and provide strategic analysis on supply chain design, strategic planning, improvement, and policy change
Build quantitative models, simulations, and business-oriented statistical analysis tools
Implement and coordinate the collection of qualitative and quantitative field data
Conduct and summarize literature reviews, documents, stakeholder interviews, and quantitative evidence into clear and concise presentations and papers
2 – Project Management
Set clear project scope, priorities, and deliverables
Develop and manage project budget and timeline
Manage performance of sub-contracted work streams
3 – Communication and Strategic Engagement
Facilitate meetings and presentations with external clients and partners
Contribute to strategic health supply chain policy discussions
Coordinate stakeholder discussions and knowledge exchange
Succinctly convey technical and quantitative information to a range of technical, policy, and business audiences
4 – Knowledge Creation
Create and catalyze new discussions on areas of future development for healthcare supply chain
Contribute to the intellectual development and growth of the healthcare supply chain field
Develop a repository of knowledge on supply chain in emerging markets
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, industrial engineering, supply chain management, or related fields with at least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, or a graduate degree in business, economics, industrial engineering, supply chain management with at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience. (Relevant work experience must include significant experience in supply chain strategy in an industry, management consulting, international development, or research environment.)
Strong technical knowledge of supply chain management
Demonstrated ability to develop effective collaborations with partners; great interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication and critical thinking skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Demonstrated in data analysis using Excel; comfortable managing large data sets and statistical packages, cleaning and organizing data sets, developing analysis plans for projects, and provide reports in a clear and organized manner
Proficiency in MS Office including Excel and PowerPoint.
Diplomacy, tact, and cultural sensitivity for working in emerging market environments
Flexibility, self-motivation, and an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Able to travel significant amount of time to domestic and international destinations, including emerging markets
Able to supervise and/or mentor other staff members, and conduct business with a professional demeanor at all times
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate degree (in a field listed above, and required number of years of relevant professional experience) is preferred over a bachelor’s degree
Experience in consulting and market analysis
Experience in global health and pharmaceutical markets
Experience working in emerging markets
Professional level written and oral fluency in a French language is a strong plus.
