Substitute Caregiver – L’Arche Portland

L’Arche Portland is part of a worldwide federation of communities where people with intellectual disabilities and live-in assistants share life and create home together. Four persons with intellectual disabilities, whom we call core members, and three or four assistants live in each of our two homes. The homes are licensed by Multnomah County’s Adult Care Home Program.

Overall Function:

This part-time position is for a person who lives outside our homes to help provide a safe and nurturing environment that supports the growth and well being of each member of the community.

General Responsibilities:

Provide supervision for the core members and help with their daily routines (personal hygiene, leisure activities)
Share household responsibilities including cooking, cleanliness and maintenance of house and yard, laundry, etc.
Develop supportive relationships with core members and assistants in the homes

Requirements:

At least 21 years old
Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Current driver’s license
Criminal record check (completed as part of the application process)
Current Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certification (can be completed after hire)

This position is on-call (usually afternoons and weekends), and scheduled on a monthly basis in a cooperative dialogue that includes L’Arche Portland’s need and the person’s availability.
