Therapist – Atlantic Street Center – Seattle, WA

Atlantic Street Center is a non-profit, social service agency serving the Seattle area for more than 100 years utilizing family-centered, community-based models.

We currently have an opening for a full-time Therapist. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Therapist delivers comprehensive therapeutic services, with emphasis on prevention, to assigned participants through a community based approach that creates positive linkages between children, youth and their families, their community and schools to improve the overall level of functioning and resiliency of participants. They may help individuals deal with family, parenting, and relationship problems; suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with mental and emotional health. As part of the counseling process, they conduct interviews, testing and risk assessment sessions with participants in order to evaluate their mental condition and formulate a treatment plan. Other responsibilities may include delivering group activities to support ASC Counseling Programs based on participant’s needs. These groups are tailored to respond to the participant’s and contractual needs for strengthening and/or acquire skills related to: positive and safe choices, self-esteem, leadership, independent living skills, job readiness, mood regulation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, parenting, communication, positive and safe relationship, mental and emotional health, etc. Both individual and group services should be established in a meaningful and collaborative service plan that has collected information obtained from assessments, interviews with participants that allows to identify participant’s/ group strengths and areas of growth to formulate a treatment plan. They keep detailed notes and records on their participants’ and monitor their progress.

Qualified candidates MUST have the following: A Master’s Degree or PhD in one of the Mental Health/Social Services sciences; be registered or eligible for registry with Washington State Department of Health; a minimum of 1 year experience providing counseling services to ethnically-diverse children, youth, and families who are experiencing poverty.

Preference is giving to those with experience working in community-based mental health programs and Mental Health Professional (MHP), or Child Mental Health Specialist. Ethnic Minority Mental Health Specialists status also preferred.
