Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE) seeks an experienced Campaign Organizer to strengthen our coalition building, grassroots organizing, and community engagement efforts.
As a part of SCOPE’s Campaign Team, the Campaign Organizer will assist in the development of campaign strategies and tactical plans, coordinate campaign activities, and develop partnerships with strategic allies. The Campaign Organizer is also primarily responsible for managing campaign-related civic engagement programs that reach tens of thousands of South LA voters. The Campaign Organizer reports directly to the Organizing Director and is a key part of developing and exercising the organization’s leadership in collaborative campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Campaign Development and Implementation:
* With the Campaign Team, develop comprehensive campaign strategy and tactical work plans that include organizing, coalition building, policy development and civic engagement components
* Build a shared analysis of the political landscape
* Coordinate campaign activities with support staff, partners and members, including outreach, training and communications programmatic work
* Represent the organization in meetings with policy-makers, coalitions, campaign targets, and media
Relationship Building with Strategic Partners:
* Cultivate relationships with key partners and stakeholders to strengthen and expand coalition activities
* Build a shared vision and strategy with campaign advisors and coalition members to advance campaign goals and objectives
* Work with allies to develop shared organizing and member engagement strategies that strengthen coalition efforts to reach affected communities and stakeholders
Development and Implementation of Engagement Strategies:
* With the Organizing Team, develop campaign-related civic engagement program goals and work plans
* Lead coordination and daily management of civic engagement and voter mobilization programs
* Supervise and support SCOPE’s Outreach Team
Development of Campaign Materials:
* Assist in the development of campaign materials, including talking points, outreach raps, fliers, newsletters, pledge cards, and presentations
Leadership Development:
* Support grassroots leadership development strategy and implementation, including campaign-related curriculum development
* Create evolving roles for members to develop and show leadership in campaign activities
* Support the political education of staff, members and allies with facilitated conversations and presentations on the political landscape surrounding campaigns
Planning and Administrative Duties:
* Track and report on ongoing campaign work and results
* Development of work plans and timelines
* Campaign-related database management as necessary
* Participation in and support for organization-wide activities, trainings, meetings and planning
Qualifications and Requirements:
ü 3–5 years applicable experience leading coordinated campaign activities with a community/base-building organization or labor union
ü Experience with the South Los Angeles or Los Angeles political and organizing landscape
ü Experience in the following areas: political campaign strategy; building or leading alliances; mass-base civic engagement
ü Experience in staff management/supervision
ü Excellent verbal and written communication and computer proficiency
ü Ability to plan and manage multiple projects effectively
ü Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
ü Campaign and/or policy development experience on issues of jobs, workforce development, climate justice or public investment strongly desired
ü Advanced capacity or fluency in Spanish desired
ü Commitment to economic, social and racial justice
ü Valid CA drivers’ license and access to a car
