SUMMARY
The Development-Events Associate is responsible for assisting the development director in all aspects of fundraising including: donor cultivation and stewardship, direct mail, special events, grant preparation, etc. In addition, the development associate is the lead staff member responsible for the development database, the processing and acknowledgment of gifts, creation of mailing lists for special appeals and campaigns, and working with consultants and volunteers for database maintenance, website updates, and other related projects.
This position reports to the development director and works closely with the financial/business manager, program staff, executive director and board of directors. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be discrete with confidential and sensitive information. Candidate must be a have excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, and an ability to juggle, prioritize, and follow through on projects. Advantageous qualities include easy-going, keen sense of urgency and a sense of humor.
Essential Functions:
Work closely with the Development Director to produce successful campaigns and meet fundraising goals and build donor support
Assist with planning, execution and follow-up for all fundraising and donor events
Coordinate with designers, printers, photographers, caterers and other vendors
Help create and maintain necessary materials, such as project and event budgets, work plans, attendance lists, and pre- and post-event correspondence for events
Help to produce marketing materials and event collateral; process, track and acknowledge gifts and pledges; generate thank you letters and other correspondence
Maintain donor database including data entry, report and list generation, update donor and vendor records
Coordinate occasional intern and volunteer projects
Provide general administrative support
Qualifications:
Event planning and fundraising experience required
Excellent communication and writing skills
Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to collaborate effectively and in diverse settings
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work + education experience
High level of attention to detail; accuracy in written work
Demonstrate professionalism, poise, maturity, and discretion
Resourceful and proactive thinker who can anticipate project needs in a fast-paced environment
Administrative skills (filing, photocopying, routine correspondence, phone, data entry, etc.)
Excellent computer skills are required: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); database (preferably FileMaker Pro); web content management and graphic design experience a plus.
