For more than 40 years, Pacific Primary, a nonprofit early childhood program, serving 155 children, has offered a model year-round program for a highly diverse group children (ages 2.5 – 6 years) and their families.
Music and Movement Duties and Responsibilities
Pacific Primary is looking for a Music and Movement Specialist who is loving, professional, creative, and passionate about working with young children in an Orff approach. The Music and Movement Specialist will work with children 30 to 40 hours a week from September to May and teach developmentally appropriate music and movement skills. In addition, s/he will be responsible for organizing and leading all holiday sing-alongs and special celebrations. The Music Specialist’s hours are 9am to 4pm daily.
Qualifications
A minimum of 4 years of experience teaching music and movement to early learners using the Orff approach
Early childhood education and experience strongly preferred
Fingerprint and TB clearance required by CA State Licensing required for working in a school
Strong organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Enthusiastic team player and able to work with diverse groups
Additional Expectations
Specialization in Early Childhood Orff music, training and education
Perform daily and long range planning for music program activities
Skills with classroom management and creating a classroom climate conducive to learning
Use effective teaching techniques and strategies during lessons
Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development
Provide for individual learning differences and learning skills
Evaluate student performance and communicate progress and needs to lead teachers and/or Director of the school
A talent for working with young children
Ability to play at least one instrument
